European Poker Tour Dortmund Won by Home City Girl Sandra ‘Black Mamba’ Naujoks

March 16, 2009

sandra NaujoksThe EPT held in Dortmund started with 667 entries into the tournament, generating a prize pool of over €3 million in winnings for the placing players.

The tournament was eventually taken by Dortmund home girl Sandra Naujoks, a 27 year old German graphics designer, model and Full Tilt Poker professional, winning €917,000.

The German born lady of poker, has now taken her win stats to over €1 million with her previous total standing at $280,622 also adding to her evermore impressive poker record.

Naujoks holds a number of tournament cashes including placing 9th at EPT Budapest in 2008.

Naujoks’ most influence hand of the tournament was that which she held during final table heads up against her opponent Holger Kanisch, Naujoks held pocket Aces with Kanisch thinking he possessed the better hand holding pocket Jacks. The hand placed Naujoks in a great position within the stake counts, placing her into first place.

The deciding hand was yet another that Kanisch thought he was going to win, until a 9 on the turn strengthened Naujoks’ A/9 to make the hand stronger than Kanisch’s A/J.

All but one of the final table finished cashed out at 6 figures, making their competition a profitable one.

Did you see the match?

Was it a case of Kanisch been out played or was the element of luck shining out for Naujoks?

Either way, ThatsGambling would like to congratulate Sandra ‘Black Mamba’ Naujoks on her winning and we wish her all the best in her next tournaments.

Huck Seed Wins National Heads Up Poker Championship ‘09

March 9, 2009

huck_seed

With all the huge names been offered for good odds by the book markers, not many would have seen this coming.

Huck Seed emerged from the 64 entrants as number 1 as he beat Vanessa Rousso at the final table.

The tournament has dealt out its fair share of shock exits for some of the bigger names within the tournament, with last years champion Chris ‘Jesus’ Ferguson been eliminated within the first round by Gabe Kaplan.

We posted some of the odds which were been offered for this championship from 2 companies, SportsBook and Bodoglife, with neither of the sites naming Seed as one of the favourates.

Seed won the game as his hand hit top pair on the flop, Vanessa hit second highest pair on the turn and believed she had Seed beaten as she called Seed’s all in, only to see that she was trailing.

Huck Seed isn’t a stranger to this championship coming 3rd last year and previous years have mixed results, walking away with prize money of $500,00 this year.

Seed plays his online poker at Full Tilt Poker alongside some of the other names that started the tournament such as Phil Ivey and Jennifer Tilly.

Poker Stars Reaches 20 Million Members

March 9, 2009

Poker Stars recently signed up their 20 million-ith online player, firmly stamping their watermark on been the biggest poker room on the internet.

The amazing figure is almost as equal as the population of 3 major cities in the U.S., Los Angeles, Chicago and New York.

With well into the billions of poker hands dealt, the site continues to grow, pulling in online players from all over the world.

Rewarding the 20 million-ith player, Poker Stars rewarded the Slovakian player with a $215 tournament entry, not a bad reward for just signing up to the card room.

The large number of players have flocked to the felts of Poker Stars in the last 3 years, in March 06 the site revealed that their player base was 5 million.

This means that over the last 3 years, Poker Stars has managed to attract an average of 5 million players a year for the last 3 years!

Giving players generous rewards is something that Poker Stars are known for doing, with more than one other occasion when the company have paid out to players to reward them.

We don’t have to look far for the last payout they offered, February 16th 2009 saw the 25th billion hand dealt one the infamous felts, within a Omaha high/low game, there were 3 players sat at the table, only 2 entering into the hand but as a reward for been with Poker Stars as it dealt its 25th billion hand, the 3 players were awarded $33,333.33 each.

I guess there are small elements of luck involved in poker….

The money ’strings’ won’t be tightened any time soon either as the company rolls out plans to offer $30 million in prize money over its Spring tournaments.

One thing is for sure, Poker Stars isn’t willing to pass on the title of been the worlds biggest poker room any time soon!

Poker Pros Challenge Obama to $1 Million Poker Game

March 7, 2009

Bluefire Poker has made a move to prove that poker is a game of skill, not luck amid the questions been asked by U.S officials as they consider whether poker should remain illegal.

Professional players from Bluefire Poker made the challenge to Obama, or one of the U.S. congress in a bid to show them that poker is more about skill than luck, hoping that a win would help prove information to help the congress into making a decision in the on going case to prevent online poker gambling.

The pro’s have made the challenge on the condition that if the congress are successful in the challenge, Bluefire will donate $1 million to charity.

Billy Murphy, Bluefire Poker said:

“Specific terms of the game haven’t been set yet. However, the format will include an equal number of chips at the start of the game, and the opponents will play long enough to demonstrate the advantage of skill in the game.”

“Poker prowess and experience demonstrate themselves over time - in the long run, the better player wins the game because the player’s skills increase the odds of success.”

Bluefire don’t expect to get an acceptance from the U.S. congress or from Obama himself, but the challenge has already generated alot of interest from other parties.

As court rooms come to their decision, the offer will remain on the table for acceptance.

Bluefire place the ball firmly back into Obama’s court…

Do you feel that the congress should step forward and take some first hand experience?

What do you think to the story?

2009 National Heads Up Championship Betting Odds Released

March 6, 2009

sportsbook-logo-200x100Betting sites are currently in the process of putting the betting odds out into the public eye for the upcoming National Heads Up Championship, due to take place this weekend.

Various sites are placing different odds on who they feel will walk away from the felt with the trophy in hand.

Noticeably Bodog have placed Chris “Jesus” Ferguson at 22/1 odds favourate, with Phil Ivey (25/1), Tom “durrrr” Dwan (25/1), Daniel Negreanu (25/1) and Vanessa Selbst (25/1) all close behind.

When looking at the odds offered by SportsBook, they have a different take on who they feel will walk away the victor placing Phil Ivey as their odds favourate placing him at 20/1.

One thing is for sure, with the huge number of highly regarded poker stars sitting at the felts this weekend, the victor could be any of them!

Just look at the line up of the battles which will be fiece to say the least:

*All pools are within the first round:

Hearts Bracket

Johnny Chan v Eli Elezra

Erick Lindgren vs Howard Lederer

J.C. Tran vs David Williams

Jamie Gold vs Scott Fischman

Erik Seidel vs John Phan

Jerry Yang vs Clonie Gowen

Allen Cunningham vs Sam Farha

Andy Bloch vs Peter Eastgate

Diamonds Bracket

Kenny Tran vs Antonio Esfandiari

Greg Raymer vs Jennifer Harman

Kenny Yeh vs Phil Laak

Vanessa Selbst vs Layne Flack

David Benyamine vs Gus Hansen

Huck Seed vs Jonathan Little

Chad Brown vs Glen Chorny

Annie Duke vs Brad Garrett

Spades Bracket

Gabe Kaplan vs Chris Ferguson

Ilari Sahamies vs Gavin Smith

John Juanda vs Joe Hachem

Fred Collins vs Bertrand Grospellier

Jeffrey Ishbia vs Leon Yanovski

Mike Sexton vs Phil Hellmuth

Gavin Griffin vs Tom Dwan

Barry Greenstein vs Blandino Gines

Paul Wasicka vs Nicholas Joy

Jennifer Tilly vs Phil Ivey

Doyle Brunson vs Vanessa Rousso

Hevad Khan vs Scotty Nguyen

Ted Forrest vs Orel Hershiser

Daniel Negreanu vs Chris Moneymaker

Mike Matusow vs Dario Minieri

One thing that is to be said for the line up is that placing your bets on your favoured player will involve shopping about for the best price, with so many big names in there book makers don’t know where to place the odds.

Looking about some of the published odds Howard Lederer has been placed at 50/1 to win the tournament at Bodog, thatsGambling feel that the odds there could very well be worth a few quid placing.

Have you got any tips for us?

Where will your money be placed?
