Online Poker Industry Approved For Canada
February 9, 2010
With the growth of the card game poker already in full flow, it is no wonder that so many countries are looking to break into the online gambling industry in order to turn a handsome profit, the latest that have looked to join the game is the Canadian province of Quebec.
The province has successfully negotiated a deal that will see a state authorised online gaming operation aimed towards the hugely popular game.
Loto-Quebec who are seen to hold the monopoly in terms of the online lottery within Canada, have stepped forward to offer the deal to the state which was accepted and will now be placed into action.
According to CTV Montreal, Loto-Quebec and two other companies will look to form one site that will operate under the sanction, creating a site that should be open to members to play in the second half of 2010.
The deal has not been accepted by a large number of people who are now aware of its existence with the likes of Quebec finance minister Raymond Bachand been quoted as saying “Our citizens are not protected and the money goes into illegal channels.”
The statement obviously hit home for Loto-Quebec who have revealed that they will be looking into ways to fully protect the members who head to the site to stake a wager, saying that their planned site will feature a number of security measures that are designed to protect the user.
An operation of this scale is not an easy matter and so Loto-Quebec are looking to model their new assignment on that of a European existing one, naming the one based in Sweden as a good template.
The move by Canada is seen by a number of Americans as a step to offer something that at present their country can’t due to the introduction of the legal bill that restricts US based gamblers to their options regarding online gambling.

Pro Poker Player Facing Charges Over Wife’s Murder
November 19, 2009
A british born professional poker player is looking at the possibility of police call his bluff over his involvement in the murder of his wife.
Marcus Bebb-Jones is being held oin charges that he killed his wife and then used her credit cards to live a playboy style lifestyle in Las Vegas, entering into poker tournaments and playing live ring games.
Bebb-Jones is accused of murdering wife Sabrina after she was reported to be missing by employees of the couple from their hotel business, based in Grand Junction, Colorado.
The guilt of Bebb-Jones seems to have been too much for him after he was found a few days after his wife was reported missing to have tried to take his own life, shooting a gun into his open mouth but somehow managed to stay alive.
Police have release a statement that revealed that they had found Sabrina Bebb-Jones’s blood in her husbands car but they had to release him at the time of finding the evidence due to lack of strength of the evidence and the unknown whereabouts of his wife.
Bebb-Jones told police that he had walked out on his wife with their 3 yeard old son after having a martial bust up but the child was later found in a Las Vegas hotel room alone.
Police continued to pursue the case, later turning up a skull that was confirmed to be that of his wife Sabrina, found on a mountain pass in Colorado, America.
Bebb-Jones had returned to Britain to start a new life with his now 15 year old son by the time the police had tracked him down, finding that the accused had been living a playboy lifestyle with drink and gambling.
The accused murderer has experienced a good amount of success at the poker tables since his new start to life after moving out of America with his son, winning £90,000 in one tournament which took place in Walsall, England.
Bebb-Jones was arrested yesterday morning and will be held with a view to return the British national to the United States of America to face trial after new evidence gives police enough to charge the man.
The professional poker player seems to be set to be denied bail after the prosecuting US Government official lawyer told the judge that Bebb-Jones had already tried to take his own life and so allowing the man to post bail would allow him to try to do so again.
“Mr Bebb-Jones is sought for the murder of his wife. He is responsible for the murder, and the deliberate concealment of it for many years. On the weekend following that incident it is said Mr Bebb-Jones went to Las Vegas and spent thousands of dollars – partially using credit cards in his wife’s name. He lived a playboy lifestyle in the course of that weekend which culminated in him putting a gun in his mouth and shooting himself in the head. Whether by judgement or design he didn’t cause any life-threatening injuries to himself.” said US prosecutor Aron Watkins.

College Drop Out Earns Over $8.5 Million Playing Poker
November 13, 2009
The slogan ‘Don’t be a fool, stay in school’ has long been something that every parent has told their children at least once in their life, with their kids fighting to make it through the college years but on young mans parents will be definately thinking that their son made the right choice after his latest win at the poker tables.
21 year old Joe Cada decided that he was going to drop out of school and become a professional gambler, with poker his chosen game.
The young professional managed to make the gamble pay off for him in the end, winning the recent World Series of Poker main event and staking his claim to more than $8.5 million in tournament prize winnings.
With so many household names entering the tournament every year, all with an eye on the top spot, Cada was set to be up against the odds as some of the biggest names in poker took to the tables.
Cada managed to keep his head and eventually won the tournament, claiming his $8.55 million in prize money and a nice new WSOP Winners Bracelet to boot.
Cada started playing poker online at the age of 16 and began to get a real feel for winning, making a fair amount in his time at the tables. This later lead him into the decision that he was going to drop out of college to chase his dream of winning huge amounts of cash playing a game that he loved, poker.
Cada was lucky in his dream, with the 21 year old player openingly admitting that he took a risk when he decided that his path in life was going to revolve around playing poker and placing money at stake at every outing that he was going to participate in.
The World Series of Poker winner told media that “There is definately a career to be made from the game, but you had to be very careful when you make the decision because more players lose than win.”
The young professional poker player warned other players who were thinking about making the move away from working their jobs or participating in college that gambling can cause the lowest of feelings aswell as offering one of the highest that he has experienced. The player said “They don’t really know the behind-the-scenes, because you go through big up-and-down swings. At the beginning of poker, when I lost $40,000 or $50,000, I maybe acted differently than I normally was.”
The vicotry will mean that the player will have a fair amount of backing, taking home 50% of the prize money himself after seeking financial backing from two other parties to help the player raise the $150,000 buy in fee to the tournament.
Cada isn’t big enough to be classified as a household name at the moment but a couple more showings like this one will mean that the poker world will have to sit up and take notice of the young pro.
