Gearing Up For 2012 MLB Betting

January 27, 2012

While it seems like the World Series just wrapped up, the truth of the matter is that spring training is only a few weeks from getting under way.  As the annual ritual of roster-setting and last-minute deals nears, another annual ritual –  betting on baseball –  will be right on its heels.

With futures an increasingly popular model of betting on all sports, baseball included, fans are working out their predictions earlier and earlier than ever before, with some going so far as to start roughing out their 2012 World Series picks before 2011 was even fully in the books.

While we don’t suggest taking it that far, we do think that now is a good time to start thinking –  if only in broad terms –  about your strategy for betting baseball in the coming season.  At this point, your best strategy is to start collecting information.  Why not browse some mlb predictions and see what that early consensus for the division leaders seems to be?

Comparing the early consensus with your instincts is a good way to see if you’re going to be playing with the pack this year or treading a more contrarian path.  It should also help to get you up to speed on the latest metrics and systems people are developing, possibly giving you the chance to add a few implements to your betting toolbox that you didn’t have before.

One bonus of getting such an early start is that you’ll be able to polish up your mlb fantasy skills as well, given that there’s such a large amount of cross-talk between fantasy sports and sports betting.  While getting started early is no guarantee that you’ll be able to dominate your league this year, it can’t hurt.

Baseball will be underway before you know it, and one of the best betting seasons of the year will begin as well.  Enjoy both to the maximum by putting in some prep work now.
