Thinking Mobile Gambling? Think Security First

February 6, 2012

Mobile gaming is becoming an increasingly popular choice for poker players and casino patrons alike.  With so many spots in the daily routine where a spin of the roulette wheel or a hand or two of poker would fit perfectly, it’s not hard to see the appeal.

However, there is a downside to the mobile gaming boom.  While it’s great that you can play your favorite casino games at the top iPad casinos, you’re also opening yourself up to some security risks that you may not be considering.

ChipsGiven that accessing an online casino via your mobile also means potentially exposing your account balance and banking information, a few quick steps to shore up your security are in order.

Don’t Store Anything
Most people don’t store their user names or passwords on their regular computers, but choose to save things on their mobile just because typing on their phone can be a pain.

This bad habit can be disastrous, especially when combined with the simple fact that people lose their phones more than their computers.

Never Use The Free WiFi
It can be tempting to use the free WiFi when you stop at a coffee shop.  After all, many mobile plans limit data use, so if you can save a bit of data, what’s the harm?

The harm is that free WiFi connections are terribly vulnerable to hackers –  your information is basically floating around just waiting for someone to grab it.

You might need to be especially careful with this one if you’ve used free WiFi in the past, as your phone or tablet may just connect automatically to the network when it is in range without giving you any notice that it is doing so.

Triple-Check the App
This one is especially true for Android users, but it’s a good rule of thumb for everyone.  Do everything you can to be 100% sure you’re downloading the app you wanted to download and you’ll reduce your risk of fraud dramatically.

Going mobile is great, but it pays to be safe.  Take these simple steps and you’ll be on the path to a secure, enjoyable mobile gaming experience.
