California Contemplate Legalising Online Poker

February 27, 2009

An upcoming iGambling conference is set to have some interesting attendants.

A legislation team from the state of California have decided that in their efforts to legalise online poker gaming, they would attend the conference so that they can meet with the people behind online poker gaming.

The change in stance on the view that online poker was bad for the ecomony has come as the world is hitting a recession.

A report from Gambling911 indicates that the team are looking to legalise the gambling as a way to aid the public in this time of tight money strings, with the state having large unemployment rates.

The Gambling911 report also tells about how the team will not be looking into legalising the gambling through PartyGaming, this is due to the owner Anurag Dikshit, a multi billionaire, pleading guilty to foul play and accepting bets from US residents, even though there was a law passed to stop this.

The muti billionaire was charged $300 million in fines.

The report quotes a legislation official as saying:

“California is not going to have an online poker room licensed in the state where one of the founders pleaded guilty before he was even charged with a crime.”

888.com have been a name that has been put forward, should the team decide that they are going to legalise the gambling method.

The reasoning for this has been explained that, the state were looking for a company that have been trading publicly for a length of time, and 888.com tick all the required boxes in their primary viewing.
